Medicinal Honey-Onion Cough Syrup

Some homemade kitchen pharmacy for you! πŸ₯ΌπŸ‘©β€πŸ³

This honey onion syrup is an amazing home remedy that takes it one step further, that is generally well tolerated by children (over 2 years), with some simple household ingredients - good quality honey,

Manuka or raw local honey, and onion. I like to make this at the beginning of winter and keep it for a few months for those winter coughs.

HONEY ONION COUGH SYRUP

Ingredients

1 large onion, thinly sliced
Good quality raw honey (enough to cover sliced onions)
1 tsp minced or grated ginger
1 tsp rosemary leaves

Method

1. Add the finely sliced onion to the saucepan and add enough honey. If you’re including any of the optional extra ingredients you can add them at this point too.
2. Heat the mixture on the stove over the lowest heat possible for
30 minutes. The honey should become warm, runny and smell of onion, but not overly browned.
3. Pour the warmed honey with the onions into your glass jar. Seal and store in the fridge for around 6 months.

To use:

Eat straight off the spoon as a cough syrup or add to a small amount of hot water & drink. πŸ˜‹
